Zollner high-tech greenhouse in operation since recently

2.5 million cucumbers per year from Bavarian greenhouses

Cucumbers have been harvested in the state-of-the-art greenhouse of Zollner Gemüsegärtnerei in Eitting since February, being marketed in Bavarian Rewe stores, these companies reported in a joint press release. Recently, the greenhouse was officially inaugurated.

The Zollner family from Eitting has been growers for generations, focusing on potato and open field vegetables. In addition, it operates a Nawaro bio-gas plant. "The cucumber greenhouse is our second mainstay," explains Johannes Zollner. "On the two-hectare production area, we can harvest around 2.5 million cucumbers per year according to the criteria of the state quality seal" Tested Quality Bavaria "(GQB) and the regional window (RF)."

Distribution partner is Rewe Region South, which has its central warehouse in Eitting - practically around the corner. The cucumbers are marketed under the label "Rewe regional". "Regionalism has a very high priority in our corporate strategy, especially regarding fruits and vegetables," says Frank Lomb, Sales Director of the Rewe Region South. For him, this partnership is also a commitment to local agriculture: "The value added remains in Bavaria. And we are pleased to support a young entrepreneur who has recognized the trend towards regionalism as a market opportunity. "

Most modern energy efficiency standards
The greenhouse is built according to the latest energy efficiency standards, says the press release. Heat and electricity from the family-owned bio-gas plant is transferred to the greenhouse. For irrigation, rainwater is collected, the plants are grown on recyclable trays and instead of a plastic wrap, the cucumbers get a banderole.
