Prince de Bretagne plans to increase organic volumes

Organic fresh vegetables go from 20,000 tons in 2018 to 32,000 tons in 2020

From 20,000 tons of organic fresh vegetables in 2018, Prince de Bretagne expects to reach 25,000 tons in 2019 and 32,000 tons in 2020. Today, 116 Prince de Bretagne producers are committed to organic farming: 91 certified organic and 25 in conversion (more than doubled in 2 years). “Thanks to the necessary organic crop rotations, our range keeps expanding each year and currently counts more than 40 different vegetables,” explains Georges Guézénoc, president of the organic section at Cerafel Prince de Bretagne and producer of chicory, traditional shallots, organic broccoli and squash.

“Our commitment is based on the respect of the European organic specifications. And this commitment relies on the many tools put in place thanks to our cooperative organization, such as 22 years of experience in organic farming, investments in research, the selection and creation of our own seeds, the collective defense of the producers’ income, supporting young farmers and the Global GAP certification.”

For this, Prince de Bretagne took strong decisions. “From the start, we decided that 100% of our vegetables would be grown in Brittany by producers of the organization. Another one of our strengths is that we never opposed conventional to organic producers, because it is through solidarity, rather than opposition, that we have developed and will develop farming practices that are more respectful of the environment.”
