Spain: Partnership agreement between Arc Eurobanan and La Cartuja de Moguer

ARC Eurobanan, a leading fruit and vegetables distribution group, has signed a partnership agreement with the company La Cartuja de Moguer for the production, distribution and marketing of its strawberries from Huelva.

On 22 September, Donal O'Driscoll and Angel Rey, managing directors of ARC Eurobanan, and Manuel Moreno Gallinato, CEO of La Cartuja Moguer, have finalised the agreement that will enable the Eurobanan group to sell the San Andrea, Primori, Sabrina, Explendor and Candonga varieties, which are the ones currently produced by the company from Huelva.

Ángel Rey stated that "ARC Eurobanan has gone a step further in its quest to get closer to producers."

Donal O'Driscoll said that with the agreement reached with La Cartuja de Moguer, "strawberries have become a priority in the company's commercial strategy."

For his part, Manuel Moreno assured that "this partnership will consolidate an excellent sales and distribution network, both at Spanish and international level."

With this agreement, the Group Eurobanan will add the 7,000 tonnes currently produced by La Cartuja de Moguer on 100 hectares located in the area of Rocío, Huelva, to the close to 13,000 tonnes of strawberries which the firm sold in 2013.

Additionally, La Cartuja de Moguer's facilities ensure the best quality product, which is a priority requirement for ARC Eurobanan. They have a high cold storage capacity of over 2,000 square metres and the most up-to-date phytosanitary certificates (GlobalGAP, BRC and NaturChoise).

The brand selected for this strawberry's distribution will be Isla Bonita, which specialises in freshly harvested fruit at an optimal ripening stage.

This label will be used in all four formats to be marketed: 250 and 500 gram trays and 1 and 2 kilo boxes.

Eight new banana and tropical fruit ripening chambers
This investment adds to the one made on eight new banana ripening chambers, recently constructed and inaugurated by ARC Eurobanan at its headquarters in Madrid. The company currently owns a total of 34 such chambers in Spain's capital.

Six of the new chambers will be devoted to the ripening of bananas to be added to the twenty-four that the firm already has at its distribution centre in Madrid, while the other two will aim to consolidate the ripening process of tropical fruits such as avocado, mango and papaya, adding to the two that are currently devoted to this purpose.

In its press statement, ARC Eurobanan says that the implementation of these chambers has been a necessary step given to the exponential increase in demand for these products. The goal is to continue being able to offer the best service with the regularity required by modern distributors.
