Coop has decided not to introduce a flat-rate refund of 3 percent for suppliers of vegetables, fruit, and berries. The retailer halted the controversial agreement at the end of July, the Faire Märkte Schweiz (FMS) association announced on Tuesday. Coop ultimately stated that it had had good experiences with the new ordering system. However, individual negotiations with producers had proven to be 'too complex'.

FMS President Stefan Flückiger suspected that Coop had given in due to fear of a ruling by the Swiss Competition Commission (Weko) and public pressure. Coop argued that earlier orders would offer significant added value for producers. They would receive their final orders earlier, giving them greater planning security and increasing efficiency, which would also result in cost advantages for suppliers.
