The governments of Indonesia and Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), are holding avocado cultivation training for Palestine aimed at improving production and marketing capacity.
Head of the International Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Ade Candradijaya, said at the launch in Malang, East Java, that avocados are a promising high-value agricultural commodity in Palestine and can contribute to the Palestinian economy. The training, running from August 11 to 25, involves 15 participants representing the Palestinian government who will learn the full process of avocado farming and marketing.
According to a statement from JICA in Jakarta, Candradijaya said that Indonesia was "happy to share best practices and experiences in avocado production." Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun expressed appreciation for the assistance from the Indonesian government and JICA to Palestine for the agricultural sector.
JICA Indonesia Senior Representative Jimbo Naomi said the training reflects the commitment of Japan and Indonesia to support Palestinian development through cooperation schemes that have been in place since 2007.
The program, titled "South-South Triangular Cooperation Training (SSTC) on Integrated Avocado Tropical Fruit Farming Management for Palestine," opened at the Ketindan Agricultural Training Center in Malang. The training is divided into theory sessions and field practice in various Indonesian cities, including Surabaya, Malang, Gresik, Klaten, Subang, and Bogor.
According to JICA, the initiative is part of the second phase of the Capacity Building program supported by the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), which was initiated by Japan in 2013. The training is conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, JICA, and Indonesia AID, and reaffirms the joint commitment of Indonesia and Japan to continue supporting Palestinian development.
