With more school districts reopening this week, retailers promoted a wide range of products to prepare students for the new term. Lunchbox and snack options such as grapes, baby carrots, kiwifruit, apples, plums, tangerines, and grape tomatoes were widely featured. Breakfast items, including apple juice, strawberries, avocados, and blueberries, also received strong promotion. Many stores allocated advertising space to school supplies, while local and regional produce was highlighted across the country.
Total ad volume this week reached 292,163, down 1% from last week's 293,688. Compared to the same week last year, total ads were 2% higher than the 285,699 recorded in 2024. By commodity group, the breakdown was: fruit 183,056 ads (63%), onions and potatoes 20,923 ads (7%), vegetables 84,842 ads (29%), herbs 1,762, ornamentals 1,141, and hemp 2,201. Organic produce accounted for 37,825 ads, representing 13% of the total.
Among major advertised fruit items (3,000+ ads), notable year-on-year price increases included seedless grapes (black +25%, red +14%, white +11%), organic seedless grapes (white +12%, red +11%), yellow peaches (+12%), yellow nectarines (+11%), and strawberries in 1 lb packages (+11%). The only notable fruit price decrease was for red cherries (-12%).
For potatoes and onions, the only significant change was a 14% year-on-year price increase for sweet yellow onions in 3 lb bags. No significant price changes were recorded for vegetables this week.
