"The second Kiwi Matera season starts in 60 days"

Important development for golden kiwis in Basilicata

After making its debut last year in the Italian markets and supermarkets, the Kiwy Matera® brand is preparing to start its second sales season, which promises to be much bigger.

The orchards of the Top Gold golden kiwi variety are all located in Basilicata, so as to be fully in line with the branding strategies aimed at enhancing the entire regional territory, as was done with strawberries.

"The volumes envisaged for the next season will increase fivefold, compared to the tonnes marketed in 2024," explains Francesco Nicodemo, CEO of the OP Frutthera Growers, highlighting the ambitious expansion project. "The areas invested amount to the 50 hectares already planted, which will come into full production starting next year, and to which the areas of other local entrepreneurs, who are increasingly willing to embrace this project of crop diversification, will be added over time."

Kiwy Matera's production calendar goes from 1 October until at least mid-December. "Harvesting operations should start in around 60 days. Last year, due to the small quantities, the product was presented to and reserved for specific customers. This resulted in a considerable decumulation of stocks, so much so that we ended the season much earlier and could not satisfy all requests. Actual supermarket distribution starts this year. The packaging has been revised for the new season, making it more attractive to end consumers, again choosing 500 g Ezy-Split punnets."

As for exports, Nicofruit intends to supply a large part of the customer base already existing for strawberries, with shipments initially focused on markets such as the Netherlands and Luxembourg, as well as Italy.

Kiwy Matera Nicofruit, marketed by OP Frutthera Growers, boasts a completely yellow flesh and a taste reminiscent of exotic fruits such as mango and papaya, with an almost creamy texture and a slight lemon aftertaste. "It is a fruit that is always delivered ready to savour, thereby eliminating the uncertainty about its degree of ripeness. This is ensured by careful harvesting, which only takes place when the fruit is ready and rich in the substances that guarantee its perfect shelf-life in a refrigerated environment, without ever being frozen. Kiwy Matera is a light and nutritious snack, low in calories."
