Retailers embraced the peak of summer this week by prominently featuring seasonal fruits such as peaches, tomatoes, cherries, strawberries, and apples. These were complemented by popular summer vegetables, including watermelons, peppers, onions, and corn.
Total advertisement numbers reached 259,555, reflecting a 2% decrease from last week's total of 263,988. Compared to the same week last year, ad volume is down 5% from 272,292.
Ad distribution by commodity group was as follows: fruit accounted for 163,943 ads (63%), vegetables 76,539 (29%), onions and potatoes 16,602 (6%), herbs 658, ornamentals 863, and hemp 1,608. Ads for organic produce totaled 28,077, representing 11% of overall advertising.
Among items with over 3,000 advertisements, several fruits experienced notable price increases compared to the same week last year. Apples (processed) rose by 12%, avocados by 11%, blueberries by 13%, red seedless grapes by 46%, white seedless grapes by 43%, round mangoes by 13%, white nectarines by 11%, raspberries by 35%, and strawberries by 10%.
There were no significant changes in prices for potatoes and onions. However, within the vegetable category, artichokes showed an 18% price increase. Meanwhile, plum tomatoes and tomatoes on the vine saw price decreases of 14% and 10%, respectively.
