Israel’s Ori mandarin volumes 30% lower with 2025 season in full swing

Israel's Ori mandarin season is in full swing with about 30% lower volumes expected this 2025 season, says Yinon Osem, CEO of Edom Fruits in Israel. "Prices are now low due to a lot of Ori that was sent in February, while quantities from Israel are 30% lower this season. Prices are expected to be better in March and April."

Osem says the lower Ori volumes are a result of alternate high and low-bearing years. He goes on to say that a lot of quantity has been sent during this month (February). "Ori is one year on and one year off - this is a low crop year - in addition, we expect March to April to be strong as we had no rain until now. The quantities sent were very big during February and there is not too much left for March and April."

Edom Fruits grow their fruit and vegetables around the Sea of Galilee in Israel. This includes pomegranates, organic peppers, and kumquat. They also source from different growing countries such as Israel, Spain, South Africa, Peru, Greece, and Argentina. Their Ori's are exported mainly to France says Osem, "The Ori quality is very good. Most of our sales are focused on the French supermarkets, while the premium fruit is sold to the specialist wholesalers."

Their lychee season is around the corner says Osem with great excitement. This is because they have a new lychee variety that does not require sulfate treatment. "For lychee, we are introducing a new variety called Ong long. This new variety is very big and does not need sulfate treatment - this is a big advantage. The lychee season is from mid-June to mid-July," concludes Osem.
