The Jordanian Medjool season continues quietly, in a context of lower productivity than last year and normal demand.
Jordanian Medjool producer Rabea Hosami told FreshPlaza: "The quality of Jordanian Medjool is very competitive worldwide. We produce highly prized, premium varieties. However, in terms of volumes, we have seen a decline in recent years."

Nationally, and according to the Ministry of Agriculture's statistics, Jordanian Medjool production has dropped from 27,000 tons produced in 2021 to 20,000 tons in 2022. "Again this year, we have seen a drop in volumes. We had a late winter, a disrupted, cold and long spring in addition to dark respiration, which delayed the grading of dates."
"This had an impact on date blossoming and volumes," Hosami continues, " We have seen as much large-sized dates as medium sized-ones, I estimate that losses are in the order of 10-15% of volumes again this year compared with last year."

In terms of sales, Hosami explains that "Jordanian Medjool is exported to the Gulf countries and Turkey, traditional markets which are still in strong demand this year. On the other hand, demand from India, East Asia, and Europe is weaker this year".
