It was a difficult start to the South Australian cherry season due to the weather, which resulted in a late start and much reduced volumes.
"Most of the SA growers are wrapping up the season with the Tasmanian cherries now servicing the domestic market," explains Penny Reidy, SA Produce Market, Marketing Manager.

"A few growers will still be picking for the next couple of weeks which is quite unusual in SA. Typically our growers like to get the bulk of supply off the trees before Christmas."
Most growers are wrapping up picking now in SA, however consumers will still find them available on shelves for a few more weeks.

"Most consumers want cherries for Christmas so we have had to redirect our marketing efforts to encourage cherry consumption throughout summer," said Penny.
