Egyptian Medjool dates are increasingly popular

The Medjool date, a variety originating from Morocco and dubbed "king of dates" due to its richness in nutrients, arrived in Egypt just 15 years ago. But its popularity keeps increasing year after year. Today, more than 1.5 million Medjool palms are planted in Egypt. Ramadan Elsayyad, export manager of Palm Hills Dates, announces: "The history of Medjool dates in Egypt is something of a bomb, the whole world will soon discover the extent of its quantity and quality".

The Egyptian producer has planted 60 thousand palm trees, for a production of 1200 tons this season, up from 850 tons last season. "We expect to reach 3500 tons within five or six years. As for the quality, it improves from year to year as the age of the palm trees and the learning curve of our technical staff are important factors." Ramadan continues to explain: "The moisture level is good, 19 to 22% is all that we asked for. Skin separation was observed in a very low quantity, less than 5%".

The success of Medjool dates in Egypt is due to technical factors and commercial incentives. According to Mr. Ramadan, "The demand for Egyptian Medjool dates is due to its aesthetic aspect, its color is lighter than other competitors, and its shelf life is longer. Egypt has also instituted trade agreements reducing customs taxes to encourage Medjool exports".

Today, Egyptian Medjool dates are exported to Turkey, Russia, Belgium, United Kingdom , Germany, Italy, Brazil , USA, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India and other countries

The Egyptian exporter Palm Hills Dates is therefore targeting these countries where the Egyptian production is already known, and is planning to use them as hubs to reach neighboring countries, the ambition being no less than "to reach every part of the world". To this end, the producer prefers to conclude agreements with exclusive resellers in destination countries.

Ramadan Elsayyad will attend multiple exhibitions in 2023, including: Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Gulfood in Dubai, Fancy food in New York, and SIAL in Paris.
