"The mango market is starting to pick up a bit again," says Ive Lambert of Starfruit, a Belgian company specializing in exotics imports. "The supply from Peru is shifting from Piura to Casma, so in the past few weeks' high volumes have declined slightly."

"These mangoes are a little pricier. So, if those prices can't be made in Europe, less volume is being sent. Most of the volume comes from Piura, where plenty is loaded and sent to Europe. For Casma, it's a little different."
"Mango prices are, therefore, rising again too. The market is recovering," says Ive. According to him, the fruit from the Casma region is also of better quality. "Mangoes from Piura are good too, but those from Casma are simply truly top quality. And the prices reflect that."
Ive says the avocado market is currently fairly stable. "There were some supply issues in weeks 3 and 4, but that happens every year. That's because of Christmas and New Year when there's little packing. The market is now stabilizing again," he continues.

The trader is presently waiting for avocadoes from Peru. "These should arrive next week. These are significant volumes, and their quality is in order. There's usually somewhat more fallout in Colombian mangoes when they're being ripened. But Spanish and Moroccan mangoes are of good quality too."
As for passionfruit, Ive is especially relieved that demand is rising. "After the holidays, there was a lot of passion fruit, while demand was terrible. Prices were even below cost in January. Fortunately, a little less volume is arriving now, and demand is picking up, partly due to Valentine's Day. That is most welcome," he concludes.
