NZ supermarkets low on lemons due to domestic supply problems

New Zealand supermarkets are currently having a lemon supply problem. Countdown, for example, has no lemons for sale online in Auckland. New World has limited online shoppers of some stores to one lemon per order, and is charging Auckland online shoppers $10 per kilogram. Its Hamilton online shoppers are being charged $6 per kilogram.

According to Countdown spokeswoman Kiri Hannifin, they are waiting for its lemon shipments from the US to be cleared from the Ports of Auckland. They should be in store before the weekend, she said.

The next big domestic lemon harvest isn’t for a few months meaning the market will largely be reliant on imported fruits until then.
