John Verbruggen of Verbruggen Paddestoelen:

"Organically-grown oyster mushrooms becoming very popular"

The Christmas rush has truly begun at Verbruggen Paddestoelen in the Netherlands. After thorough preparation, the harvest and sales are running smoothly. "We grow oyster mushrooms organically at several locations. Unique to our company is that we control the entire chain. Our partner company, Veme Specials produced the organic substrate," says John Verbruggen. Verbruggen Paddestoelen cultivates gray as well as trumpet, lime-yellow, and salmon-pink oyster mushrooms organically.

The company recently started using growing lights for even better quality. And they have another announcement. Verbruggen Paddestoelen is already GlobalGAP, Planetproof, and Fair Produce certified. And now, it is the first Dutch organic oyster mushroom grower to be FSSC 22000 certified. "We're very proud of this and thank Bast Quality Management for its guidance. Besides our regular sales, this certification also offers room for new sales channels where it's a requirement," John concludes.
