Spain: Primor bringing high quality oranges to China

“Fruit marketed under the Primor brand is exported from all over the world, such as Spain, South Africa, and Australia. We have a variety of fruit, such as peaches, avocados, plumes, and plums. We have our own orange cultivation centers, processing plants and packing houses in Spain. In the other producing areas, we conduct strict screening procedures for fruit at the source through direct purchase, active participation in growing, and joint operations. In any case, we adhere to the three principles of high quality, safe production, and sustainable development.” Primor shared.

CEO Jose Rodriguez Carrascal

“In China, the high-end markets in East China is the main marketing base for our ‘Primor orange’. With Shanghai being the center, our business is radiated to Beijing, Guangzhou, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Wuhan, and Shenzhen. Although the Primor brand only entered China half a year ago, thanks to our continuous investment in brand promotion and in-depth expansion in sales channels, the Primor brand has gained a certain degree of recognition in the Chinese market."

“Currently, our ‘Primor orange’ are available at Youzan, Ole, Xianfeng, BLT, 716 Fruit Shop, City Super and Century Lianhua Supermarket. They are also expected to become available on the shelves of Carrefour supermarkets next year between February to March. In order to achieve good promotional results, we have adopted a variety of innovative measures, such as renting drilling machines out to retailers free of charge, which drill the oranges and insert a straw and let consumers consume the juice straight away. On the online side, we have made a lot of investment into direct communication with consumers to listen to their voices, following the standards used by well-known brands in building brands.”

“With excellent product quality and effective sales promotion efforts, we have received positive market feedback since the ‘Primor orange’ became available in China. Especially, our partners are very happy with the high quality and good balance of sweet and tart taste of Primor oranges. As a fruit grower and trader with strong brand awareness, we use the market demand as the basis to provide consumers and partners with safe, high quality and sustainable products while solving their sales problems. ”

“At the moment, ‘Primor orange’ are selling well in the Chinese market, and we are quite satisfied with the sales performance. ‘Primor orange’ are grown in our own production centers in Spain. In the past few years, the export volume of Spanish oranges to China has increased year by year. This has, on one hand, created more business opportunities for Spanish growers and traders, and on the other hand, poses many challenges for the local industry. Spanish growers understand that the Chinese market has demand for quality fruit, especially that they have a specific preference for the taste of the fruit, so there’s enough room in improving the efficiency of the entire industry chain. Therefore, the Chinese market still has great commercial potential for them."

“The fact that ‘Primor orange’ is able to achieve such good results in a short period of time when Spanish oranges are facing increasingly fierce competition is mainly thanks to a few factors. First of all, unlike most other import and export companies, we focus on branded agriculture in China, and not just trade activities itself. Secondly, we are concerned about environmental effects. We do not overuse the land during our growing process, and strive to make employees work in a happy environment. In fact, the carbon dioxide emission level of our entire cultivation system is decreasing every year. Moreover, we have professional fruit grading systems, and grade our fruit based on sizes, ripeness and other characteristics from production centers, orchards to processing plants."
