The Flavor Tree presents ‘Verry Cherry Plum’

Plums and cherries: Delicious new hybrid from California

The Verry Cherry Plum is a hybrid cross of two delicious seasonal stone fruits. The results are a little smaller than a golf ball, with the look and initial taste of plum chased by a lingering rich cherry sweetness.

The relative newcomer is a specialty of The Flavor Tree Fruit Co. of Hanford, California. Co-owner Maurice Cameron said Flavor Tree started tinkering with the designer fruit in 2008, and the multi generational cross available in stores now is the culmination of several years of careful breeding.

Mysanantonio.com reports how Flavor Tree now tends to roughly 160 ha of Verry Cherry Plum trees, which Cameron said is a substantial amount of orchard space dedicated to a single fruit. Their commercial debut was at a Dallas Central Market in 2011, with a nationwide roll-out last year.

The newcomer even has its own website: www.verrycherryplum.com.
