Entrants can take part in one of four age groups. The winner of the six-and-under category will get $20, ages 7-11 wins $50, 12-17 gets a cool $100 and the open event will net the best watermelon eater $200.
Competitors will be given a slice of watermelon and the first person to finish eating it, or whoever eats the most in two minutes, will be the winner. But there is a catch: no hands allowed. Entrants have to attack the melons with their mouth.
Ceres Farm owner Matt Gray said the family business was keen to contribute to the Ag Show and thought a melon eating contest would add to the event — one of several novelty items to be held on Friday and Saturday.
