Italy: S.P.O. Zentrum's Saturn peaches

The Saturn peach campaign has started in Sicily.

"Thanks to the suitable soil and weather conditions of the Catania area, our over 53 hectares produce fruits of high quality with controlled residues and the added value of a product that is made in Sicily," explains Giacomo Rizzo, CEO of Gruppo S.P.O. Zentrum.

"These peaches aim at standing out from the Spanish product available at lower prices. Organoleptic qualities are also very different."

"The market should be better than last year thanks to the better quality and fewer quantities. Of course the sale of our produce must be managed and placed in the hands of those willing to spend a few cents more to purchase exceptional flavour."

"In addition to guarantees on phytosanitary residues, our future challenge is to achieve zero residue, basically producing organic fruit, thanks to integrated techniques. Consumers are increasingly careful and aware of what they eat, and are therefore willing to spend a little more for produce that is healthy and traceable."
