Philippines: Department of Agriculture opens mushroom R&D centre in Isabela

The Department of Agriculture in the Cagayan Valley region recently opened its Mushroom Research and Development Centre in Ilagan City, Isabela. Its goal is to further boost the promotion of mushroom production in the region.

Lorenzo M. Caranguian, Regional Executive Director of the Department, said that mushroom production is emerging as a productive endeavour of farmers in Cagayan Valley. Funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research, the facility was established to support R&D activities on processing of agricultural waste into sustainable and competitive mushroom production.

According to pia.gov.ph, Caranguian said the Department, through its research centres and experimental stations, had already started training interested farmers, cooperatives and local government units region-wide with regard to production and processing.

He urged interested individuals or groups to accept the services offered by the facility, like free trainings on mushroom production, processing technology and much more.
