Italy: Solinda season has started

The Solinda season started on 27th April 2018 and will end in September. It will begin with produce from Almeria (Spain) and continue with fruits from Sicily, Puglia and Basilicata.

Solinda is a unique premium produce thanks to a combination of factors: it's a mini-watermelon variety (grades range between 1.3 and 3 kg) that is seedless, very sweet, with a crunchy flesh and thin rind.

"In order to satisfy our clients, we have increased the crops destined to Solinda watermelons by 20% this year," explains sales manager Andrea Peviani.

In Almeria, quantities are below expectations due to the unstable weather of the past few weeks, but things are expected to get back to normal towards the end of next week.

"Quality is constant, so the fruit always meets consumer expectations. Seedless mini-watermelons are increasingly popular with consumers."

"This year, we have intensified early productions in Sicily and strengthened late productions, and these watermelons sell well in September too."
