Gastro Star takes over Convenience Specialist Sylvain & CO SA

Convenience salad manufacturer Eisberg, part of the Bell Food Group, is taking over the Sylvain & CO SA company from Switzerland. This Vaud-based company specializes in the processing of lettuce, vegetables and fruits and, with 180 employees, generates annual sales of around CHF 40 million.

The company employs 180 people and is one of the leading providers of ultra-fresh convenience in Switzerland. Sylvain & CO specializes in the production of fresh and ready to eat salads, vegetables and fruits. All employees will be taken over and the company will be continued by the previous Managing Director, Sylvain Agassis. For the company and the brand Sylvain & CO, the acquisition means securing its future in a dynamic market environment.

Eisberg is already very well positioned in the ultra-fresh convenience area, with its Swiss company Gastro Star. The company has three manufacturing plants in Switzerland and one each in Hungary, Poland and Romania. For the procurement of some of the raw materials, there is a purchasing office in Spain. With the takeover of Sylvain & CO, it is expanding its production capacity, which was increasingly reaching its limits in Switzerland. In addition, Eisberg further expands its position in western Switzerland. Sylvain & CO will be transferred to the Bell Food Group retroactively from 1 January 2018. ‘No disclosure’ has been agreed on regarding purchase modalities.
