In March, the prices paid to producers of Mexican limes with seed (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle), also known as Key Lime, in the main producing regions of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, and Oaxaca; the wholesale sales quotations at supply centers; the prices at sale to the consumer, and the trading margins of the fruit in wholesale centers, self-service chains, and traditional stores that operate in selected cities, were as follows:
Prices paid to producers ($/kg)
The average monthly price paid to the producers of Mexican limes in the field, collection centers, and packing houses in the biggest producing states in the country were: 19.46 pesos per kilogram in Colima, 17.73 pesos per kilogram in Oaxaca, 17.46 in Guerrero, and 17.44 pesos per kilogram in the state of Michoacan, according to data from SIPROLIMEX-Colima, March, 2018.
Between March 2017 and March 2018, the highest price paid to producers, which were achieved for the third consecutive month in the citrus region of Tecoman, Colima, was 19.46. pesos per kilogram; the lowest price, 4.46 pesos per kilogram, was recorded in July, and the average monthly price of the fruit increased by 10% since March 2017, when it stood at 17.48. Since there has been an upward trend for three months in a row, expectations are that -if weather and water conditions are not adverse- there will be new increases in the coming weeks of April, before the start of high production (May-September).
Wholesale prices ($/kg)
According to official data from the National Information System on Market Integration (SNIIM) of the Ministry of Economy, which compares wholesale prices of Mexican lime No. 5, the highest price achieved by the lime from Colima was 44.19 pesos per kilogram in the Felipe Angeles Market in Guadalajara, Jalisco. This price was 72% higher than in February (when it stood at 25.70). In the Distribution Centers of the City of Colima, CDCOL, the price stood at 28.81, i.e. 59% more than the 18.29 of February. The lowest price was 12.84 pesos per kilo, which was registered in the Agricultural Market of Aguascalientes and was 4% higher than in the previous month (when it stood at 12.32).
Retail prices for consumers ($/kg)
According to INEGI data, within the framework of the selected cities, the highest average monthly price for consumer sales was located in the self-service chains, supermarkets and traditional stores that operate in the city of La Paz, BCS, 41.89 pesos kilogram. It was followed by Tijuana, BC, with 41.88 Hermosillo, Son., with 38.81; Monterrey, NL, with 38.02; Colima, with 34.81, and Aguascalientes, Ags., with 32.22 pesos per kilogram.
Trading margins (%)
Colima-Guadalajara: The highest trading margin, i.e. the difference in wholesale prices in the city of Guadalajara, Jal., and the average price paid to producers in the field in Tecoman, Col., was registered in the Felipe Angeles Market in Guadalajara, Jal., (MC: 27.73%). Meanwhile, the highest trading margin, regarding retail price was (MC: 15.73%).
The gross marketing margin was 24.73 pesos per kilogram, observed between the (44.19) average monthly wholesale price in the Felipe Angeles Market in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and the 19.46 pesos per kilo average monthly price paid to lime producers in the region of Tecoman, Col..
The trading margin of consumer prices was 15.73 pesos per kilogram, i.e. the difference between the average monthly sale price for consumers in shopping centers, self-service chains, and traditional stores that operate in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, (35.19 pesos per kilogram), and the average monthly price paid to producers in the citrus region of Tecoman, Colima, (19.46 pesos per kilogram).

Production volumes (in tons)
According to data from SIPROLIMEX-COLIMA, nearly 37,650 tons of Mexican lime were harvested in March 2018. The citrus region of Apatzingan, Michocan, led production with 19,100 tons (52% of the total); followed by Colima, with 9,700 tons (25%); Oaxaca, with 4,950 tons (13%) and Guerrero, with 3,900 tons (10%). Together these entities produced more than 37 thousand tons, i.e. 40% more than the 26,805 tons they produced in February.
