Port of Antwerp to highlight new connection at South American fair

The Port of Antwerp will be on hand at South America’s biggest inter-modal fair in Sao Paulo from 4 to 6 April.

The most important topics that the port will highlight are the 24/5 opening of the Deurganckdock, the efficient hinterland connection to the economic heart of Europe, and the facilitating customs legislation, which together guarantee a smooth flow of goods.

Belgium (and the Port of Antwerp) were recently in the spotlight in Brazil with the signing of the “pear contract:” The first Belgian Conference pears will be shipped to Brazil from Antwerp starting this autumn. Brazil imports some 200,000 tonnes of pears annually.

Non-stop goods handling
The flow of imports and the high speed with which goods are processed in the Port of Antwerp will naturally feature prominently at the inter-modal fair. The latest new achievement of this flexible supply chain is the 24/5 opening of the Deurganckdok, where terminal operators process incoming container cargo non-stop between Monday and Saturday morning and prepare it for further transport to the hinterland.

Facilitating customs procedure
Many Antwerp service providers are recognised as tax agents, whereby the VAT has to be paid only at the final destination in the European hinterland. In combination with the cross-border customs-warehouse procedure, whereby import duties can be paid later, this also ensures a rapid goods transit.

Dense hinterland network
The Port of Antwerp owes its success in particular to its inland location and the extensive and efficient hinterland network of road, rail, and inland waterway links that are connected seamlessly thereto.
