"We grow our carrots in the North of Israel through to the South, and because of that, our season starts later than that of other companies. However, this means we also finish later than others,” says Helena Ravitz. “We have fresh carrots until early July. Our carrots are grown in heavy soil, which produces a sweeter carrot with a longer shelf life.”

The company’s objective is not to compete with local producers, but to supply the window that exists in other countries. “Our main markets are the US and Europe,” Helena continues. “We also export to the UK, and to Russia. We try to sell to different markets, not to put all of our eggs in one basket.

"Especially now that currencies such as the dollar and the euro are weaker compared to the shekel. As far as we can tell, it’s going to be an interesting season, because other countries had bad seasons, which is an advantage for us. But the depreciation of currencies is difficult for us, most of the currencies are at least 15 per cent weaker than the Israeli shekel. But that doesn’t mean we can charge a customer 15 per cent more.”
