50% lower Rocha pear production in Portugal this season
Sales are developing normally in the usual countries; however, Vasco Silva, manager of Masilfrutas, comments that "the weather conditions of the past two years have not been good for this year's production," and that its stock has been reduced by 50%. In any case, Masilfrutas continues to supply Rocha pears to its largest buyer, Brazil, as well as other countries in Europe and also Morocco. These markets account for 90% of the sales of the company's total pear production.
The fruit's campaign will come to an end in May and Masilfrutas expects good results, as well as a good start for the upcoming campaign, thanks to the cold of recent weeks. The firm will again have to compete against countries like France, Italy or Poland, which export the same product and "which can manage to ship a comparable volume, although not a comparable quality," states Vasco Silva.
