Indian market relocation in Kedareswarapet making progress

A proposal in India to move the market in Kedareswarapet to Nunna has been pending for over two years, with some traders fearing losing business but others are looking forward to the change to a more favorable location with better utilities.

Due to traffic congestion and garbage near the residential areas, which are adjacent to the fruit market, the district administration and wholesale fruit traders had earlier decided to shift the wholesale fruit market to the Nunna mango market, which is 10 km from the existing market.

Joint Collector, Gandham Chandrudu, also conducted a meeting with the fruit merchants on shifting the market to Nunna. But, some traders are reluctant to shift the market, due to fear of losing their business.

“We are ready to shift the fruit market from Kedareswarapet market to Nunna, which is very convenient for us for exporters and importers of fruits, said Kasi Visweswara Rao, president of the Nunna Mango Growers Association.

Several hundred retail traders and people visit the wholesale fruit market every day at Kedareswarapet for buying fruits. If the market is shifted to Nunna, the retailers and people who visit the market may face difficulties.

The officials are holding discussions with the fruit traders on shifting the market. But, it will take some more time. Nunna market has more than 80 shops with basic infrastructure like roads, electricity and drinking water.
