New citrus greening solution could save industry $40 billion

A collaboration between AUM LifeTech and the United States Department of Agriculture has developed a non GMO approach to protect crops from bacteria, insects, and other pathogens. This was mainly focused on citrus trees and fruits and could help save the industry $40 billion dollars in losses which occur because of citrus greening. In total, citrus greening has already caused an estimated $15 billion in losses of revenue for industry members.

Recent studies have shown how devastating the impacts can be. Florida for example, which produces 66 percent of citrus produce in the United States experienced nearly a 60% reduction in citrus production over the last 15 years.
