UK: New precision agronomy systems developed for fruit crops

Hutchinsons, the crop production specialists, have developed Omnia: a whole-orchard nutrient planning management service, and the more detailed Omnia Precision, which incorporates multiple layers of information covering areas within the orchard.

The cloud-based systems can process information from virtually any source and export files to most precision farming systems, and are accessible from any desktop computer, iPad or tablet or through a free app, according to Hutchinsons precision technology manager Oliver Wood.

"With this we can create a nutrient management map for apples and pears just as easily as for wheat and barley," he said. "This system has been designed to have our specialist agronomists at the heart of the service, so that we can advise on the best agronomic solution."

Omnia and Omnia Precision can be provided by Hutchinsons agronomists or are available as a self-service program, which Wood said is "intuitive and easy to use, and supported by our bespoke Omnia support team".
