Ukraine: Change in apple varieties grown
Over the past five years, Ukrainian professional growers’ apple have somewhat changed the varieties that they are growing. Golden Delicious is still the leading apple variety in Ukraine. However, its share has decreased from 23% to 21% over the past 5 years, reports Fruit-Inform.
Reinette Simirenko has maintained its second position in the ranking with its current share amounting to 17% against 15% five years ago. Meanwhile, with the share of 11%, Jonagold ranked third in 2015, while 5 years ago it had not entered the group of top three leading varieties.
Fuji, Champion and Florina also show rather high growing rates: each variety accounted for 3% of Ukrainian professional growers’ apple production, while 5 years ago they had not entered the group of top ten varieties.
A decrease in Ukrainian growers’ interest in Jonathan variety should also be mentioned. Meanwhile, more varieties are mentioned, such as Topaz, Pinova, Ligol, Liberty and Eder.
