Eleonora sugar baby watermelons launched on the market

The new Eleonora watermelons have been launched along the "L'Orto di Eleonora" brand by Agricola Campidanese. As reported by sales manager Salvatore Lotta, they are sugar baby watermelons with black skin and red flesh. Sugar level is 12.8° Brix, they are seedless and weigh 5-7 kg.

"It is a natural product and the fact that there are no seeds is a benefit for consumers. Unfortunately people are not very aware of seedless watermelons, but we aim at informing them by inserting information sheets in the crates."

Crates measure 60x40 and hold 3-4 fruits. They are destined to Italian and foreign retailers. "We are also going to test sales in Great Britain and the Netherlands."

The producer organisation also studied a specific marketing campaign for Sardinia.

Just like Crimson, Eleonora watermelons will be available until late August. The cultivation of sugar baby watermelons started in 2015 and now covers 20 hectares.

"I think fruit and vegetables are not promoted very well in Italy. It would be better if we invested a bit more on communication campaigns instead on focusing on promotions and special offers. Sometimes I wonder what cell phones would have ended up like if they had not been promoted as much."
