Polish strawberries have hit the shelves ten days earlier than a year ago. These fruits were grown in high tunnels. Strawberries are sold at the Wholesale Market in Bronisze for prices ranging between 14 and 18 złoty per kilo (between 3.20 and 4.11 Euro). There are also plenty of imports (Spanish and Hungarian) with wholesale prices ranging between 6.50 and 15 złoty per kilo (between 1.49 and 3.43 Euro).
Nevertheless, the cold weather recorded in recent days has delayed the ripening and delivery of both strawberries and Polish vegetables. Low temperatures have also resulted in higher production costs and a slower decline in prices in subsequent deliveries.
At the moment, most of the strawberries in the market are not from Polish producers. Polish fruits are clearer and much more expensive, and so far there are still small volumes available. The strawberries imported from Hungary stand at a similar price to that of the Polish fruit.
