Polish apple exports outside the EU down 63%

According to Mr Mariusz Dziwulski, an analyst at BGZ BNP Paribas, the market situation for apples in the 2015/16 season is good both in terms of production and prices.

While exports to markets outside the European Union have fallen by 63 percent, including Belarus, where shipments have dropped by as much as 53 percent, the lower than average harvests in Germany for a few months have resulted in increased demand for apples in the EU market, explains Mr Dziwulski.

According to the analyst, the higher purchase prices of apples do not necessarily translate into an increase in exports outside Europe. "The weaker export demand caused by the embargo has also been mitigated by the possibility of a partial withdrawal of the production from the market. This may lead to increases of apple prices over the next six months," he added.
