Fruit and vegetables for refugees in Schöneberg Berlin

The Berlin wholesale market and the Berlin Fruchthof together donate fruit and vegetables to the refugees in the shelter at the former Louise-and-Wilhelm-Teske School at the Tempelhofer Weg in Schöneberg.

In the school that has been unused since 2012, live 250 refugees, “for whom we wanted to do something nice,” stated Dieter Krauß after a meeting with volunteers at the location. During the meeting it became clear that there was a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables.

And that will change, company Weiss Fruchtimport (photo) from the Fruchthof cooperative has prepared the first delivery: "We bring around 300 bananas, 250 apples and pears, 300 mandarins and other citrus fruits, and cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, parsley and lettuce to Schöneberg," says Managing Director Olaf Weiss.

"We initially planned to supply to the shelter twice a week," explains Andreas Foidl, the managing director of the Berlin wholesale market. Each Tuesday and Friday are scheduled as delivery days.
