The new facility covers 10 thousand square metres.
The new facility is located in Verona and covers 10 thousand metres. The structure is completely refrigerated and is equipped with a processing and packaging area for strawberries and soft fruit with 70 workstations. It also has numerous refrigerated units with different temperatures for the various products as well as controlled atmosphere units.
Company chairman Matteo Mosca told FreshPlaza that "the new structure can process 19/20 thousand packets a day, but we want to double that figure."

The inauguration of the new facility was also a way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the company, which over the years turned from a family business into a leader in the berry sector.
Garden Frutta was established in Trentino in the 1980s by the Mosca family. The company then expanded, moved to Verona and gained productive areas in Piedmont and southern Italy.

The company produces strawberries and small fruits and imports counterseasonal produce to guarantee the supplies throughout the year.

"We have also introduced pineapples, mangos, papayas, limes, pitayas, pomelos, ginger and lychees. Demand for exotic fruit is growing a lot in Italy, as well as that for berries." Exotic fruit now represent 30% of the company's activities.

Imports come mainly from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, "but imports from Mexico and Peru are increasing as these countries can cover 5/6 months. The most peculiar fruit comes instead from Asia, and mainly from China and Vietnam."
Garden Frutta imports fruit from 47 countries in total, "so we can find practically anything". All the fruit travels by air, especially since Verona airport is located just a few km away.

The facility is strategically located for exports too. "There are many interesting markets in the Mediterranean area and we have already tested some."
Garden Frutta is also a few metres away from the Verona fresh produce market. The company has its own stand in what is not only one of the main wholesale markets in Italy but also a gateway to northern and eastern European markets.
