Canada: Portuguese Fruit Processing company to expand operations

Portuguese Fruit processing company Frulact has announced that it plans to expand it operations in North America, and open up shop in Kingston, bringing 50 permanent jobs in the process. The city beat out 13 other municipalities in landing the 15 million dollar investment, which includes a processing plant and R&D development facility.

The company has already secured the rights to an adjacent lot on centennial drive, to accommodate potential expansion. However, the city is hoping that growth will lead to similar companies calling Kingston home.

“The big thing to emphasize is that attracting a big company like Frulact, is going to attract other food manufacturing businesses that want to be close to Frulact and be able to work with them – so we have a real chance to build a cluster of industry right here in Kingston.”

Frulact's Canadian operations will be built on a 15 acre chunk of land and will be 75,000 square feet in size. The company plans to begin operations in October of 2016.
