Port of Los Angeles: zero onshore emissions plan
In a Tuesday press release the Port announced its draft white paper in which it emphasises the importance of achieving zero emissions in its maritime goods movement, especially in relation to drayage trucks and yard tractors.
Its aim is to be testing and developing up to 200 zero emission vehicles by the year 2020.
The Port, in its Tuesday press release, confirmed its strong commitment to innovative, sustainable operations that “benefit Southern California’s economy and quality of life”.
As North America’s leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, the Port of LA facilitated $290bn in trade in 2014. It supports, directly or indirectly, almost 150,000 jobs in the city of Los Angeles and about 530,000 in the 10 counties constituting Southern California.
