Record pecan prices in US

Growing demand for pecans in China is leading to record prices here in the US. Prices have continued to increase the last few years, to as much as $4 per pound.

Experts say this demand has led to larger groves and more pecan trees. Those trees take about 8 years to produce pecans.

"Hopefully demand will hold up and these pecans will have a market, have somewhere to go at a good price," said Lee County Extension Agent Doug Collins.

Collins said the drought in California could lead to premium for Southern pecans this year as well.
