Spain: Javier Goñi, new CEO of Grupo Fertiberia

Fertiberia's Board of Directors has appointed Javier Goñi del Cacho as new CEO, a position he will combine with that of managing director, which he has held since 2012. He replaces Francisco de la Riva, who, after 20 years as head of the company, leaves all his executive positions, but will stay as a board member.

Javier Goñi joined Fertiberia in October 2002 as chief operating officer of the company. After a successful industrial restructuring process, he contributed decisively to boost diversification and internationalisation, which resulted in the acquisition of Fertial in Algeria, ADP Fertilizers in Portugal and the recent creation of Fertiberia France. Since March 2014, he chairs the National Association of Fertilizer Manufacturers (ANFFE), which brings together the largest companies in the sector in Spain. He is also vice president of the European Union of fertilizer producers (Fertilizers Europe) and member of the Board of Directors of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA).

Javier Goñi del Cacho was born in Pamplona 46 years ago. He graduated in Law and Economics from ICADE and has an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau). Prior to joining Fertiberia, Javier Goñi worked for ten years at McKinsey & Company, where he became an associate in June 2002. Since joining Grupo Villar Mir in 1995, Fertiberia has had Juan-Miguel Villar Mir as president until 2005 and subsequently Francisco de la Riva, who held the post until last December.
