BI-LO banners double up on kid promotions
Both promotions began Sept. 10 and run through Oct. 7, according to a release from Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, the parent company for the retail banners.
For the promotion with Katie’s Krops, the retailers are donating a portion of proceeds from specially marked fresh fruits and vegetables to help create 500 gardens across all 50 states by 2018. Founded by 16-year-old Katie Stagliano when she was 9 years old, Katie’s Krops currently has 80 youth-run gardens in 29 states.
In-store sampling events to promote the Katie’s Krops project are planned at select locations with the help of produce sponsors Dole Fresh Vegetables, Reichel Foods, Country Fresh, Ready Pac, Buddy Fruit, Starr Ranch, Bolthouse Farms, Wonderful Brands, Sage Fruit and Dayka Hackett, according to the release.
“Through our ongoing partnership with Katie’s Krops and our produce sponsors we have a unique opportunity to encourage children to taste, smell, feel, and ultimately enjoy trying new produce that they may have never explored,” Bi-Lo Holdings vice president of produce Bob Denomme said in the release.
The promotion with Radio Disney’s “TRYit” campaign also seeks to increase fresh produce consumption among children.
Through Oct. 7, the “TRYit” campaign in the Bi-Lo banner stores will include special displays featuring Disney characters, an in-store scavenger hunt and The Big Apple Sweepstakes.
The Disney scavenger hunt includes sweepstakes clues and produce facts for kids. After collecting the clues via the scavenger hunt, parents can text a code to be automatically entered into the sweepstakes. Prizes include a vacation package to New York City with hotel accommodations, airfare, and tickets to ABC’s “The Chew.”
Some retail locations will host Radio Disney road crews, who will provide interactive entertainment, prizes and the music from kid-friendly artists. Demonstrations at 100 stores will provide sample fresh fruits and vegetables. Recipe cards will be distributed from the Disney-themed eCookbook, according to the release.
