New Food City opens Wednesday in Phoenix
The first 500 shoppers who visit the store after it opens at 6 a.m. will receive a free bag of groceries with a purchase.
Others will receive gift cards and prizes, including a grill and ice chest. Customers can register to win a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and tickets to an upcoming Luis Miguel concert.
Shoppers can taste food samples throughout the store, and enjoy live performances from Mariachi singers and Ballet Folklorico dancers. Food City also will be grilling food outside of the store.
The newly-remodelled store has festive décor and expanded product and service offerings, according to a press release. Among improvements are an expanded restaurant-style deli, larger produce department, from-scratch Mexican Bakery, full-service Tortilleria that makes homemade tortillas and tortilla chips daily and a speciality Carnicería with marinated cuts of meat and free marinades.
"With a more-than-60-year reputation of service to the Hispanic community in Arizona, Food City carries aisles of traditional Mexican foods along with items found in a traditional grocery store," the press release says. "Food City also reaches out to the community by making a concerted effort to hire people from the neighbourhoods it serves."
