Roseleaf raspberry shrub iN botanical garden of Karelia has borne fruit

First harvest of Tibetan raspberry in Karelia

Seedlings of this exotic for Russia variety were brought from the Baltic in 2013. According to the magazine "The Republic", the shrub from the Himalayas has been doing well during winter and summer. This variety of raspberries has large tasty berries and at the same time looks decorative. The fruit is very likely to become popular in Karelia.

However, the scientists fear that the Karelian bears, which last September repeatedly raided the apple and chokeberry plantations, will be very tempted to try Tibetan raspberries.

Roseleaf raspberry originates from Tibet, and is sometimes called “Tibetan raspberry”. Certain types of the berry are grown in South America and Madagascar. The berries have the size of a strawberry and a bright pink colour which gets darker once ripe (in Karelia in mid-September). According to experts, the taste reminds the one of bramble and is suitable for preserving.
