Russian amateur-breeder grows grape-shaped walnuts

Walnut has a leading position among the symbolic plants of the Krasnodar region in the national campaign “Walk of Russia”. Vladimir Kurdyukov is a farmer who breeds a special variety of walnuts – “Korenovsky”. The sample used for breeding experiments was originally brought to the region from Kyrgyzstan.

According to Vladimir Kurdyukov, the bred variety of walnut is distinct in sweeter taste and fine fragrance. However, the main peculiarity of this walnut tree is the way it forms the clusters of nuts - just like grapes.

Another distinctive feature of “Korenovsky” walnuts is frost resistance. It can resist cold weather and temperature as low as -35 ° C.

However, due to its fertility, the tree itself is rather short – it gives all of its strength to the clusters.
