Brazilian food sector grows by almost 15%

The Brazilian food sector grew by 14.5% compared to the net sales for the months of April, May and June last year, reaching 8,410 million dollars. For the entire first semester, this figure reaches 16,670 million; up 13%. 

The net income for the subsidiary Vía Retail was of 5,520 million in the second quarter (+8%) and 10.970 million in the first semester (+6.9%). 

The New Pontocom, head of the e-commerce group, registered a strong 35.1% growth during the second quarter of 2014, reaching 1,280 million; during the first semester, sales increased by 43.4%, reaching 2,590 million. 

The Pão de Açúcar Group recorded 15,200 million in consolidated revenue in the second quarter of 2014; up 13.4%. In the first semester it grew by 12.6%, reaching 30,200 million. Growth in this area, according to the company, was driven by a significant increase in the number of visits to the sites. "Market" is a sales model that brings together different kinds of stores in one place.

The store's consolidated sales grew by 9.5% in the second quarter and 8.5% in the first semester.

Positive figures, according to the company, which benefited from the opening of 116 new stores over the past 12 months and an increase in sales volumes.
