New manager of Auchan Romania estimates higher businesses this year

The new manager of Auchan Romania, Frederic Bellon, estimates an increase of the business figure in 2014, as the value of sales in the first months is slightly higher than in the same period of 2013, on the background of a price policy lower by 25% implemented in former Real stores.

At the same time the new general manager of the French group in Romania maintains the target declared in October 2013 by his predecessor Patrick Espasa, to go to profit at the end of 2015.

Auchan Romania concluded 2013 with business of 4.6 billion lei, two times higher than in 2012, after the integration of 20 Real hypermarkets. The cumulative business of Auchan and Real generates losses of 15 million Euro last year.

In its new dimension, Auchan has 31 stores open in 18 towns and two units under construction in Drumul Taberei residential unit in Bucharest and in Brasov, a net sales area of 252,000 sq.m., 11,000 employees, three logistic platforms and 70.5 million customers yearly.

Four out of the 20 stores taken over from the German group Metro function in their own locations - Vitan, Brasov, Craiova and Targu Mures, while Auchan took over the administration of Bacau and Sibiu galleries.

Since 2006, when the first hypermarket opened in Romania, Auchan has invested over 300 million Euro. The union of commercial galleries Auchan Titan and Iris under the brand Auchan Titan Commercial centre, investments amounted to 2 million Euro.

The remodelling of the 20 stores taken over from Metro was about 40 million Euro.

The company has now 11,500 employees in Romania and will have 13,000 more after opening the Coresi and Drumul Taberei projects.
