Horticonnect: A springboard to the Mexican market

Horticonnect is a business platform where Dutch companies share physical resources and which has recently launched a logistics project to facilitate the handling of imports, storage and distribution in Mexico. "Our services are focused on Dutch companies that want to expand their business or settle in Mexico," says Pharis Rico, general manager of the firm.

"We observed that there were many Dutch companies in the high-tech sector in Mexico with the same customer profile, but also with the same difficulties with aspects such as tax law, immigration and other factors that may be complicated for Dutch companies"

The firm offers its clients legal, tax and accounting services, from the handling of paperwork for work visas to the creation of a Mexican company; ideal for companies wishing to enter the country. Its biggest project is currently a programme with the Dutch government called Mexicultura.

Mexicultura is a development programme with more than twenty partners with which it has managed to reach full cooperation and to which it contributed with the search of its project manager. "Finding talent in Mexico is another service we can offer, although Horticonnect retains the labour and contractual responsibilities," explains Pharis.

Horticonnect's primary objective is to find synergies between Dutch companies. Pharis says that "the firm strives to create new concepts with which to deliver value to customers, but in a safer and more efficient financial environment to help prevent frequent problems, such as non-payments."

The service also allows for the products and services of one party to be combined with those of another, while respecting the independence and confidentiality of each. According to the CEO, "this is also suitable for companies that already have distributors in Mexico, in which case Horticonnect gives preference to those with a very clear focus on Mexico and a stronger position than their competitors."

At this time, Horticonnect's strategy is to focus on value added greenhouse agriculture, as its growers are natural clients for knowledge, technology and Dutch products. The company is strategically located nearby Mexico City airport and many hotels, but also close to the area where most greenhouses are located.

"We plan to take part in big events, like Expoagro, in Guanajuato, and to develop a digital strategy, for which both Hortidaily and FreshPlaza can play an important role in terms of promotion. We are also working on a few things, a new website, a publishing newsletters, digital communications and of course, on scheduling personal visits to potential customers," concludes Pharis Rico.
