"My goal is to become a Middle East specialist"

Morad Fawzy starts Fresh-Agro

A number of years ago Morad Fawzy started trading seedlings on a commission basis. In February he started the company Fresh-Agro in the Netherlands. The company is in the business of the import and export of vegetables, fruit, seedlings and consumption potatoes. Morad - who is of Egyptian origin, but has been living in Holland for twenty years - can also act as a commercial agent.

Morad is a specialist in the import from and export to Egypt. This started a number of years ago with the export of the Dutch seedling potatoes. "The Dutch seedlings are of good quality and not too expensive," says the trader. Now the first Egyptian grapes and red onions are on their way. The contracts for Egyptian pomegranates have already have been signed, and sweet potatoes, strawberries and citrus also belong to Fresh-Agro's assortment when in season.

"I speak the language and know how to do business in Arabic countries. That's why I think I know how to do business better than the average Dutchman. Arabians have a different way of doing business, although you can't generalise all of them," says Morad. "Thanks to my experience I work with the large Egyptian producers, who are GlobalGAP-certified. I want to define myself with an honest way of doing business. If suppliers do not meet their agreement, we will not last long together."

"I am already receiving requests from the Middle East. The first shipment will soon leave for Dubai. My goal is to become a real Middle East specialist," says Morad. "By keeping our chains short with growers and suppliers, there are little overhead costs and we can offer quality and service. My goal is to supply as good as possible a product at a sharp price. We also try to offer the best prices possible."
