Good start for European cherry season

The cherry season in Europe is early this year, particularly in production areas in the North. The first cherries from Southern Spain appeared mid April.

With the arrival of produce from the Caceres area, as well as more Northern regions such as Catalonia and Aragon that are expected over May, the offer should remain substantial. Overall, potential is high, there was enough cold weather despite a particularly mild Spring and hailstorms in certain regions (notably Huesca).

Potential is good in Italy as well, despite some losses, notably of early Burlat cherries (Foggia and Tarente mainly). The season should begIn early May in the Pouilles. Production could be particularly early in the North (Eilia-Romagna/Venetie) where a good level of production is also expected.

The season began in France, with the first cherries from the South-East at the end of April (Gard/Roussillon). The offer should increase very quickly as of the 12th May with the first harvests from Mont Ventoux, the Rhône-Alpes and the South-West. Monts du Lyonnais and Val de Loire will follow around the 20-25th May.

Considering the good flowering and lack of major climate problems, the potential is high. Turkey's season will begin in May, one week early, slightly damaged by hail but with a harvest similar to last year.
