Ireland: Keelings strawberries ripe for the taking

Galway girl Sile Seoige was delighted to sample the first harvest of Keelings Irish strawberries. Keelings are local fruit growers based in St Margarets.

Speaking from Keelings strawberry glasshouse, David Keeling told the County Leader, “Strawberries are one of the fruits most widely associated with the Keelings brand and so the first harvest is always special to everyone at Keelings and marks the beginning of a new growing season. This year’s Keelings Irish strawberry harvest is the earliest ever to ripen. This year we have an exclusive early Spring variety, which, in addition to new growing techniques we’ve adopted, has resulted in this extra early start to the Irish season.”

To ensure Keelings’ Irish strawberries reach their customers in the best possible condition Keelings ensure that once harvested they are stored in carefully controlled atmospheric and chilled conditions.
