The Economic Federation of Mendoza (FEM) warned about the situation of the province's fruit producers, "who lack the resources to continue until the next harvest," and rated the sector's situation as "severe and worrying."
FEM's Production vice-president and head of the Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industry of Tunuyán, Alberto Carletti, explained that the problems only got worse with the frosts, and that in some cases, the damages are much more severe than originally reported by official sources and the Institute for Rural Development (IDR).
FEM's vice-president also predicted that "the situation is not likely to improve, and that the same will happen with dried plums."
Carletti was also pessimistic about the situation of labour, reporting that "demand for seasonal labourers in packing dropped by around 80%, and the same is happening with the harvest."
